About The Course
The Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), introduced by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), is a four-year undergraduate programme designed to prepare future educators by integrating academic coursework with professional teacher training. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, ITEP provides a multidisciplinary approach to teacher education, ensuring that graduates possess the necessary knowledge, pedagogical skills, and teaching experience to excel in elementary and secondary classrooms.
This innovative programme integrates general education courses with teacher training, allowing students to earn a dual degree—B.A. B.Ed., B.Sc. B.Ed., or B.Com. B.Ed.—within four years instead of the traditional five years. The curriculum is structured to combine theoretical foundations, practical experiences, and internships, ensuring holistic development and enhancing the quality of teacher education in the country.
The introduction of ITEP is a significant step towards improving teaching standards at all levels of education. The government has mandated the four-year integrated B.Ed. programme as the minimum qualification for teaching by 2030, with the aim of revitalizing the teacher education sector. The course will be delivered in a multidisciplinary environment, rooted in Indian values and traditions, while also equipping teachers with the competencies required to meet global education standards. Additionally, with NEP 2020 emphasizing regional language instruction and technological integration in education, the new ITEP curriculum will prepare future teachers accordingly.
Kokrajhar Govt. College has applied to the NCTE to introduce the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) for the academic session 2025-26. Students who wish to pursue a career in teaching after completing their secondary education will be eligible to enroll in this programme.
